Cover Leathers

All of these samples represent a 4″ x 4″ piece of leather. You can click on each picture to enlarge it and get a better idea of the texture and grain. Remember that leather is a natural product and your binding may look slightly different and may have some marks or scars. We believe this contributes to the beauty of the leather.

Top Grain Cow Hide is the Base Leather used in our Bookbinding. These leathers are locally sourced and no two hides are alike. They may be mineral or vegetable tanned.

Harmatan Goatskins are a fine quality range of leathers beautifully dyed and finished. Soft in feel and pliable, they provide an excellent tooling surface.

Only sumac and other natural materials are used in the tannage. Skins are hand polished and finished to show the beauty of the natural grain.

The natural character of each skin is maintained, no pigment finishes are added and no grain correction is made. These leathers will generally add about $175 to the base price of the binding.

These elegant goatskins are produced by Harmatan as an economical alternative to their standard Fine Leather line. They are fully vegetable tanned, with a natural grain, and a pigmented finish. These leathers will generally add about $120 to the base price of the binding.
